A Recipe without the Recipe

Here's some back story you might not know about me.
My first job right out of college was called a "culinary specialist."
I was trained in knife skills, basic culinary 101, and public speaking.
Because everyday I would walk into high schools dressed like the Iron Chef and would
make a variety of random recipes for snotty teenagers to try out while trying
to convince them to go to culinary school.

Besides being able to chop with my eyes closed while dishing out insults to teenagers,
I also came away from that job with a bit of a knack for cooking.
I'm not claiming to be Julia Childs or anything,
(not to be confused with Julia Stiles, congrats by the way on the comeback girlfriend!)
I'm just saying I enjoy throwing a bunch of stuff together and seeing what the end result is.
Thus I bring to you quinoa stuffed peppers.

Now I'll tell you what I stuffed them with, but realize this changes each time
I make them depending on what I have in my fridge at the moment.
One time I had yogurt, pickle, and chocolate syrup stuffed peppers.
I kid, I kid.

Ingredients I used:
Quinoa (obviously)
Ground Turkey
Peppers (from the tops of the pepper)
Scallions
Mushrooms
Spinach (I add spinach to everything, literally everything.)
Sometimes I'll add black beans just for a little fiber kick, but not this time.
Then a little shredded cheese right at the end.
I've also tried goat cheese and really enjoyed that.

Now here's what I think sets aside a good cook from a bad cook-
spices and seasoning.
I just gave you the basic ingredients above, but then I throw every spice in my cabinet
on top of it.
To name a few I used-
Italian Seasoning
Garlic Salt
Bavarian Seasoning
Red Pepper Flakes
Celery Salt
Cracked Black Pepper
Cayenne
Lawrys
Chili Pepper
all tossed with a bit of olive oil.
I know some of these spices might not make any sense, but if it tastes good why the hell not.

And I should also note I don't follow a recipe.
Cooking is about experimentation -
or so I said everyday while I was making the jicama salsa demo back in 2009.
Seriously though, I never measure anything, I don't look at specifics,
I just go with what I think will taste right.

I'm not sure how healthy these peppers actually are,
but they can't be that bad.
Quinoa is so hot right now.

I'm not usually a recipe post kinda gal but this wasn't half bad.
Perhaps next Sunday I'll post the recipe for my buffalo chicken pizza...
Which is oddly enough many of the same ingredients just a different base.
Let me know what you guys think.

And this week I will also be adding some new elements to The Browse.
Five days later I've already got quite a few new ideas that I think will keep you all Browsing,
as well as be beneficial to growing your own blogs.
Stay tuned.
I'm off to do Sunday things.
