Bye Bye Liver

Some people make collages of their outfits over the weekend, I make collages of my food. Whatever, we've all got our passions. I made a good run at eating healthy last week, I really did. I lasted until about Thursday, but then the weekend came and all hell broke loose as usual. It started Friday evening at Barn & Company with amazing shredded pork nachos and a pulled pork sandwich, as you can see above. I love this place and it breaks my heart we don't live a block away like we used to. I feel like you can tell a lot about a restaurant by if the chef comes out to say hello to the customers, and low and behold almost every time we go to Barn, Chef Gary stops by our table to make sure the food is good. (I think that's his name, anyway. ) But of course the food is always beyond delicious.

Saturday morning started out innocently enough at the Division Ale House in Wicker Park to watch the Husker game. But bottomless Blood Marys and mimosas never seems to end well. This time was no different.

We got to the bar around 10:45 a.m. and by 1:30 p.m. Chris and I were taking selfies like this. And nobody wants to see this.

We should have called it a day at 2:00 p.m. and spent the rest of the afternoon on the couch, but instead we purchased more beverages and chose to move the party from the bar to our house until we left again at 7:00 p.m. to catch a show up North (ironically) called Bye Bye Liver. After the show I was quite tired and more than ready to end the day of excessive drinking because it had just got to be a little much. This girl isn't twenty-one anymore and that's a-okay with me.

So we had the taxi man drive us through McDonalds on the way home, Chris ordered four cheeseburgers and I ordered twenty chicken nuggets (our typical Saturday evening order) and we were both quite excited to get home and watch a little SNL and lay on the couch with our McD's. But then we realized we were locked out. You want a sure way to ruin a night? Forget your keys.

And even though I could see Harlow through the window, and he could see me, he didn't understand my actions enough to unlock the door. But by God you can't say I didn't try. I'm certain the only thing that stood in our way between Harlow figuring out how to unlock the door and let us inside was his lack of thumbs, because it definitely wasn't his spirit. I could tell the poor thing wanted to help us but he just didn't know where to start.

Since we couldn't get in and our landlords weren't home, we proceeded to do what any other couple would do in such a situation- we ate our McDonalds while arguing with each other as to who's fault it was. And I must say, it's kinda hard to have a serious conversation/argument while your adult male neighbors are next door smoking cigarettes on their stoop dressed like all of the Disney Princesses (because of Halloween... I think.)

At one point Chris just got up and walked away. I must have been so knee deep in my chicken nuggys because I didn't even notice, but when I did, you better believe I ran down the street over dramatically yelling "Chris! Chris! Chris" like I was Marlon Brando yelling "Stella!" in a Street Car Named Desire. One might have thought he was leaving me to go to war the way I ran after him so erratically. Luckily, I caught him. And then five minutes later our landlords came home and let us in.

To make up for the traumatic evening we put Harlow through the night before, we spoiled him and took him out to the greatest dog park in Illinois. It's just acres and acres of open land with lakes and paths and every thing in the world a dog could dream of. And in case you don't believe me about how great this place is I took about fifty photos to prove it.

(Harlow is not wearing dark socks like it appears, he is actually covered in mud at this point and loving every second of it.)

It was a wonderful afternoon. We treated ourselves to Portillos on the way home, see above photos #5 and #6 to understand the goodness that is Portillos. Italian beef and crinkle cut fries, yes please!

Who's ready to take on Monday? Better yet, who's ready to take on November? I am! Holiday season here we come!
