Happy Hour

Another Friday is upon us! I am switching things up a bit today and straying from my usual weekly recap after having been asked to be a part of Hilary's Dean Street Society Happy Hour Blog Tour. To celebrate the release of Hilary's book, The Four Part Entrepreneur Cocktail, she's asked thirty of her favorite bloggers and entrepreneurs to discuss a few blog related topics, and also share some of their strengths and weaknesses pertaining to what it is they do.

I know what you're thinking- how did I end up on this list... Trust me, I thought it too. My guess is someone better couldn't make it so I was a last minute filler spot. But whatever, I'm totally okay with that! I think this whole idea is really cool and love what Hilary is doing so I'm more than happy to support a successful gal following her dreams.

So let's jump right in! If anybody is new around here just stopping by on account of the happy hour tour, let me introduce myself quickly. My name is Taylor and I live in Chicago with my pup, Harlow, and a bearded boy named Chris. And I chose the name of my blog (The Daily Tay) on a whim one evening and planned to change it later because I knew from the get-go it was pretty lame, yet here we are four years later...

I occasionally like to do stand-up around the city and am studying improv at The Second City and iO Theater. As you might have guessed, I've got some weird hobbies.  I also like to drink bloody Mary's and take photos of trees. So as you can imagine I'm quite nervous about what I will find to photograph once all of the trees are officially bare in a couple of weeks. Perhaps I'll move on to bushes.

And no, my sunglasses aren't really that Jersey Shore-ish in person, they just photographed that way and I found it too comical to snap another photo.

Regarding which parts of blogging come easy to me...

The writing part. To be honest, that is the only part of blogging that comes easy to me. All of the other stuff- the photos, the graphics, the design, layout, google analytics, image editing, link-ups, buttons, hashtagging, networking, html, the list goes on and on of things in the blogging world I just don't quite understand like everyone else seems to. I'd be lying if I didn't admit I sometimes find the blogging world to be a little overwhelming at times. I feel like there's some girls who are able to just jump right in and figure everything out immediately, I am not one of those girls.

I certainly don't mean to, but there are times when I'll accidentally let myself forget the reason I got into blogging in the first place and will end up getting lost in the game of playing "keep up" with every other blogger out there doing something better than me. That's a tiring game that sucks all of the fun out of blogging, at least for me. So whenever I start to feel bogged down by everything that I don't understand, I just try to focus on what I do.

I understand writing, or perhaps I should say I enjoy writing. And that's really all that matters to me because that's exactly why I started blogging- to keep myself accountable for writing something, even if it's just a paragraph or two, every single day.

One of my main struggles with blogging (besides the list I mentioned above) is time management. Because blogging is something I enjoy doing, I usually end up spending far too many hours on this little site than I'd like to admit. I know some people plan their posts out ahead of time, but I'm the type of person to sit down and just start writing whatever it is that first comes to mind. And sometimes that means I'll start six different intro paragraphs and realize they're all awful until I land on something I can really get rolling.

As far as where I see this blog going, well that all depends on how long I continue to enjoy doing it. And given my track record, I could see this going on for quite awhile. But blogging isn't my life, I just happen to blog about my life.

And now I'm just rambling. Is it 5:00 yet? I'm ready for real-life happy hour. That's enough blog talk for the day, peace out pals. Have a great weekend.
